A couple of weeks ago I was at home, off work, laying in bed, sick with a double ear infection (not pleasant) and was feeling pretty sorry for myself to be honest. I found myself going through endless Twitter feeds and Facebook posts, unable to do much else.
Strangely, I found that whenever I came across a funny image or post, it made me smile and I felt a little better.
I wondered if I could somehow bottle this. I knew I couldn't, but by this point the cogs had already started turning in my head. I would do the next best thing.. register a catchy domain name and build a website dedicated to making people smile. I then thought, that's great but how could I quantify how many people it had made smile (if at all?).
That's when the idea for SmileCounter.com was born.
SmileCounter.com is a website that has a single mission, to make you smile and count how many times someone presses the 'smile' button on the site. My ultimate goal.. to be responsible for a million smiles (go big or go home, am I right?).
Can you imagine?, creating something that causes a million smiles. Just stop to think about that. I decided it was worth trying.
So to date, I have created a relatively simple website (that should look ok on mobiles) that I am continuing to improve and add content to. How is it different to other humorous sites? Perhaps it isn't all that different. Perhaps it's single focused goal of a million smiles and content personally curated by me sets it apart. Who knows?
It's not perfect but in the last 2 weeks is creeping up towards 400 smiles without promoting it much at all.
So next time you are feeling down, or want a smile, go to SmileCounter.com and press the Smile button!
