Swipe To Unlock Book Review

Swipe To Unlock is not your normal run-of-the-mill (average) book.

I can see how anyone whom wants to gain a very basic introduction to a variety of technologies (from how the Internet works to Big Data to AI) would find this useful. It is ideal for someone that perhaps works with technology, people in technology but is not that technical themselves. It is a fairly quick read to bring people up to speed.

People from a technical background will find 80% of the content is already known to them and people with technical, business and product knowledge such as myself will glean little new information from this publication. But then, I don't think this is their target audience.

The book does go into some business models such as why large social media companies make their money from ads/our information and the reasons behind notable billion dollar acquisitions but much of this will already known to most people in similar circles to myself.

If you want an introduction to the business of technology, certain technologies on which technology businesses are built or some of the technology keywords and buzzwords thrown around these days, this book may be worth a read. If you come from a technical background - you may want to give it a miss.

I'll be shortly placing it appropriately in my all time favourite book list.

Changing gear a bit, I am currently re-reading Hooked by Nir Eyal and How To Avoid A Climate Disaster by Bill Gates. Both of which I am thoroughly enjoying and find the authors incredibly easy to read.

I'm finding How To Avoid A Climate Disaster particularly interesting, educational and thought provoking and am struggling to put it down.
